BroadcomBroadcom FoundationBroadcom MASTERSOn the heels of the first Broadcom MASTERS® International this spring, Broadcom Foundation is gearing up for its second U.S. Broadcom MASTERS ─ the premier science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competition for middle school students.
Three hundred U.S. semifinalists — nominated by their regional and state fairs earlier this year — will be announced on August 15. The 30 U.S. finalists will be revealed on August 29.

Sponsored by Broadcom Foundation, the Broadcom MASTERS is a program of Society for Science & the Public (SSP), the leader in science fair competition for more than seven decades.
"The Broadcom MASTERS enables sixth, seventh or eighth graders to apply math, science and engineering through exploration of a personal interest and in many cases, experience project-based learning for the very first time as competitors in SSP-affiliated science fairs,” said Paula Golden, Executive Director of Broadcom Foundation and Director of Broadcom Community Affairs. “Through interactions with teachers, mentors, judges and fellow students, middle schoolers gain important insight about the exciting careers that await them if they stay engaged with math and science.”
The Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars) helps middle schoolers imagine exciting careers they will be able to attain if they continue their studies in math and science. Motivated to stay with these subjects throughout high school, students who participate in the Broadcom MASTERS can become the future scientists, engineers and innovators who solve the world's grand challenges in environment, health, technology, communications and sustainability.
“We look forward to meeting this year’s semifinalists and finalists, learning about their science fair projects and inspiring them to follow their personal passion as future scientists, engineers and innovators,” Golden said.
The U.S. finalists will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to showcase their science fair projects and compete in a four-day STEM competition for awards and prizes, including the top award of $25,000, presented by the Samueli Foundation.
Stay tuned for the announcement of the Broadcom MASTERS winners October 2. Follow SSP and the MASTERS on Twitter or visit the Broadcom MASTERS Facebook page.
Good luck to all of the finalists!
