At Broadcom, we strive to develop the innovative technologies that change the world. In doing so, we also work hard to make sure we’re a good corporate neighbor – within our communities, our industry and on the planet.

An important component of this comes from Broadcom’s community support efforts, whether through philanthropy or volunteerism. Today, we’re happy to unveil our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Scorecard for 2013, a self-audit of our efforts to measure and continuously improve our performance across four quadrants:  business, community, workplace and environment. In 2013, the company is proud to have improved its CSR goals – as determined across 19 different “indicators” – by 30 percent.Broadcom employees celebrate Diwali

The scorecard specifically highlights the initiatives of the Broadcom Foundation, which manages the company’s philanthropic contributions as well as its commitment to advance STEM (Science, Technology, Education and Math) education. In 2013, the fund under management of the Broadcom Foundation has grown to $100 million, up from $75 million in 2012, which enables it to expand its annual contributions worldwide. More than 10,000 students, teachers and researchers benefited from programs supported by the Broadcom Foundation in 2013.

Highlights from the Foundation’s work included:

  • Broadcom MASTERS®, (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering as Rising Stars,) a program of Society for Science & the Public,  is the premier middle school science and engineering fair competition whose participants benefit from project-based learning and mentoring with scientists and engineers.
  • Broadcom MASTERS International provides an opportunity for early collaboration between middle school scientists and engineers from around the world.
  • The annual Broadcom Foundation University Research Competition rewards innovative graduate students doing research at top engineering universities around the world.
  • Broadcom’s Global Community Heroes Program annually recognizes the civic engagement and volunteerism of employees throughout the globe.

“Through our global STEM education and service initiatives, our employees are changing the lives of thousands of people and creating a better world for all of us,” said Broadcom Foundation Executive Director Paula Golden.
